This is a french cassone style walnut treasure chest made from a couple of 90 year old walnut piano panels recycled from the local rubbish dump.
size: 75cm l x 50 cm h x 40cm d

Timbers used: flame walnut and burr walnut veneered panels cut and resized and some old walnut molding.
Time to build approx 15hrs. :ahoy:

And I even have enough of the burr walnut panel left over to make a jewelry box! :D

~beelzebubby found a 90 year old walnut piano at the local rubbish dump. He used the panels and made Walnut treasure chest. Awesome recycling job, this elegant chest just glows! ( Suggested by `Kitten-of-Woe and Featured by `Myana )

Wow, I stumbled on this (as you do) and I am delighted by your craftsmanship. What a shame that old pianos are dumped in this way, but at least you have managed to salvage enough to make a beautiful object from the remains. Well done.

That is the most beautiful grain pattern I've ever seen. I didn't even know there was such a thing as flame walnut. Beautiful finish as well! Bravo!

Absolutely stunning piece !
Seems to be begging for some metal fittings...
Black walnut is one of my very favorite woods to carve, this piece ups the ante considerably.
Great resuscitation of discarded material !

Thanks mate, I agree... some gilt bronze mounts would set this off. Since I sold this piece I have found some gilt columns from a clockcase so I will include them in a smaller version at some time. Black walnut is very nice to work, I have some hundred year old black walnut panels from on old pedal organ that will get a similar treatment one day.

Actually my comment about the mounts was completely mercenary...LOL
Since I fabricate them...
INMHO a piece like that ,ESPECIALLY A TREASURE CHEST requires custom made mounts rather than anything reproduced...
A fine piece in any event.
